December Delirium

"December is around, cold is in, exams are too. Snow is obscenely forgetful. That was not a poem.

Cherish every still moment you get, because life is a torrent of rapid movement. Cherish the Christmas banquets, the worship nights, the fireside room couches, the Mcdonalds conversations, no matter how awkward. Each infinite second that passes away like an expelled breath is a reminder of life's brevity. Don't forsake gratitude and shine in vitality. Learn to love without condition. Learn to live with definition and purpose. Forgive the forsaken. Be willing to accept your mistakes and embrace consequence. Learn to grow, mature and perspire. Yes, perspire. Life produces exorbitant perspiration you know. You could try prospering too."

"That WAS poetry however."

Music

Here is a list of my favorite five Coldplay songs and a few reasons why!

1. Yellow - Parachutes
- This song is an amazing example of how epic confusion, depression and heartfelt joy fuse together into one song. The intro starts off with light acoustic and then skyrockets into electric, resounding, and smashing bliss. It makes you feel like you're flying, and your mind is twisting in a kaleidoscope of passion. With great buildups, piano/keyboards breakdowns, and reverberating guitar riffs this song makes me (literally) tear up every time I hear it. Chris's falsetto only adds to the swirling sensation. "It's true. Look how they shine for you."

2. The Scientist - Rush of Blood to the Head
- Probably one of my favorite piano intros to any song, anywhere. Simple chords progressing in perfect succession, with light open-ended thoughts. Lyrics that make you want to fall on your knees and slam the wall with your fist, face turned to the heavens. Then the acoustic guitar comes in, followed by the pap of that beautiful snare. "...do not speak as loud as my heart..." That gets me every time. Chris has a way of weaseling his way into your feelings.

3. Fix You - X & Y
- The organ. Those dreary tones that mingle and muddle each note in a pool of rippling 7th notes. Again Mr. Martin amazes me with his lack of confidence in his writing ability, as I find him a genius in everything he writes. This song has, undoubtedly, one of the most epic climaxes you will find in a song. It's like a slow rise, gaining speed, pushing through the clouds, feeling the moisture on your face, and then exploding into the atmosphere, surrounded by billions of stars and planets all shining bright. And then it's quiet, and you are floating... drifting weightlessly... and it's over.

4. Viva La Vida - Viva La Vida
- A solid mix of synth, strings and orchestral fills, this song makes you really step back and take a look at the evolution of Coldplay. It is uplifting, joyful and very theatrical. Love it.

5. See You Soon - [Single]
- This is a little known song by the group that I am not sure how I obtained. It is an acoustic song, with an amazing picking melody going on in it. The guitar is really fascinating, mesmerizing and quaint. Great intro, outro and again, I am constantly amazed by Chris's lyrics. I am not 100% sure that he wrote this song, but it is really well done.

Requiring Rustication

"Ever get lost in the busy-ness of life? I felt like this weekend was just too much. There were so many things happening and although they were all great things, it was just too much activity back to back. I had no chance to recover or rejuvenate. It was hard to enjoy the present moment with my mind so constantly in the proximal future moment. I suppose that is part of life though. Learning to enjoy the moment before it's taken away.

Oh for the days when life was simple. When a man was defined by his work ethic and the amount of sweat dripping off his back. When a house was built by the hand of the man taking refuge in it. When women were worshiped and wars were waged for. When a family was a community, and people raised children together. When marriage was a sacred, holy and respected consecration. When disputes were settled by gentlemen; by the sword and gun. Haha.

Hence the time-travel-rustication."

"Rainy days make me happy. Don't ask me why, but I MUCH prefer gray, drab, cold, rainy/snowy days to sunny, hot days. I love bundling up and feeling the wind whip around me and rustling my hair. The sensation of entering a warm building with a red frosty nose and pulling your hood off is just unexplainable.

Other things about school I enjoy are watching and listening to people. Rebekah mentioned this before, but I really do enjoy being a creeper. It's true. Evaluating fashions, friendships, and personality oriented disorders is just way too much fun. I also enjoy a good conversation eavesdrop now and again. :D

Well, I suppose this is my last post for November. See you in the days of advent."

Zesty Zygosity

"I was the first. That is all I will say.

So, I suppose I should give you an update on my academic status. School is going alright; even with final exams looming in the near future, I have been able to keep a pretty level head about my courses. I have not really felt a great burden or destructive pressure this semester and I am only assuming that next semester is going to be an accumulation of all the university hate building up against me during the fall. This last week was just rough, cause I did NOT get enough or proper sleep all week long. That really caught up to me this weekend.

Starting January, I will not have to be at the school at 8:30 in the morning EVERY day, however, I will have to be at the school until 8:30 like every night. None of my classes actually start until 11:30 Mon. - Thurs., but I will be there til' 8:30 Mon. - Thurs. Friday I have 10:30 to 4:20 classes. So, you get a little freedom and they still like to broadside you with a whale.

I have been in withdrawal lately. Winter is coming, yet snow is tentative in it's arrival, and ice is only contemplating forming on the lakes. My skates are dull, and dusty. I need hockey. Not just, to watch, or be a spectator anymore. I need the brisk rush of the wind through my toque, the solid crack of the puck against a wooden blade. The swish and crunch of steel against a frozen pond. The grunts and deep breaths of men, muscling and forging their way around and through other men. Sorry ladies, I love it when you play hockey and I love playing with you, but sometimes you just need that feeling of solid, physical gameplay that gets your heart pumping and your mind racing.

Winter hockey. Anytime, anywhere. Well, not anytime... because winter is... only... so long, but you get the point."

Hearts Are Paper Roses

"Pain repeating, awaking yesterday.
Explicit hearts, bound to a broken future.
Lips, once caressed, now tainted by a bitter past.
A stolen glance, through a glass charade.
Splintering, crashing feelings, pierce a once beautiful soul.
Lust impersonates the one thing they never had.

So much for love..."

Do I Dare?

"Twice in a day? Oh boy, that's pushing the limits. Sometimes you just have to blog. I am currently reading an article on gap teeth becoming the new standard in beauty. It surprised me at first and made me terribly skeptical, but I have come to the conclusion that gap teeth are, still, not the latest trend. A quote from the article in The Province states, "...I think the gap-tooth beauty trend is another example of the evolution of beauty!" Hm. Don't get me wrong, I am not judging people with a grand canyon betwixt their ivories, but really? The evolution of beauty? I hope not.

THEN, I read on. "What it is saying is, you no longer need to be a perfect blond with blue eyes to grab the cover of a fashion magazine." Wow, now that is more like it. That I can appreciate more. The evolution of the idea that beauty is much more broad than the standard pop culture idea we have currently is, admittedly, appealing.

But really, that whole article was just a bunch of hokus pokus."
